It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's challenging for their batsmen to maintain a record if never given the possibility.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her bow and seven global championships have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this knock was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it appeared I've had no rhythm at all," stated Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and after that Healy was in motion.

"A chance to take the field and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

When she was out Australia required another 66 at run per delivery - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

These statements will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wished she had played with the discomfort.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as leader.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
