Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
